THE VICTORIOUS BOYS U18 TEAM, FROM L TO R, OLIVER BRUNT, DOMINIC CLEMONS, REIS SUART, GEORGE DURKAN, CASEY BLUNSUM, JACK BIGHAM, MAX HOPKINS & MATT GAUNTLETT
Hertfordshire Boys took the bragging rights when they defeated their older county rivals, the county Men’s and County Colts Teams at the sun-blest South Herts course on Easter Sunday (21st April).
The morning foursomes were fairly equally balanced with the boys lunching at 1½ points to 2½ with the Colts in a slightly stronger position at 3-1 over the Men.
The afternoon singles displayed some outstanding golf from all the county players and matches were evenly contested throughout. However, perhaps 36-holes favoured the younger and fitter boys, who won both their singles elements 5 points to 3 with some first class performances.
Max Hopkins and Reis Suart both secured 3½ points from a possible 4 over the day. 14 year old Reis was especially pleased to take the scalp of Berkhamsted Trophy winner Joss Gosling with an excellent chip on the 17th to tap-in range to close out his games 2&1.
There was some excellent play from Matthew Gauntlett who had a an outstanding back nine to win both his games 4&3.
James Surridge and Laurie Owen achieved a maximum 4 points over the day for the county Men. Ryan Hodges was the best Colt with 3½ points on the day.
The overall results were that the Boys beat both the Men and the Colts by 6½ points to 5½ and The Men and the Colts Drew 6-6. This was the second successive year the Boys have won this triangular match.
