WINNING ESSENDON TEAM, FROM L TO R, CHELSEA STEWART, ELAINE RATCLIFFE, JANINE CICCHIRILLO AND SARAH MARLEY
THE MID HERTS TEAM, WINNERS OF THE BEST NETT PRIZE
A full field of 48 pairs of lady golfers representing 24 clubs from around Hertfordshire took part in the popular Ladies’ Interclub Foursomes event, which this year was played at the Sandy Lodge Golf Club on the Moor Park Estate on the outskirts of Rickmansworth.
The defending champions were Welwyn Garden City who had a clean sweep of the prizes at the 2017 event played at Brookmans Park and were strong favourites to take the gross prizes once again.
The course provided a real test for the competitors as although recent rains have softened the course somewhat, the moisture has thickened up the rough and meant that accuracy off the tee is at a premium.
The Essendon team of Elaine Ratcliffe with Janine Cicchirillo and Sarah Marley with Chelsea Stewart almost carried on the tradition of winning the lot, when they won the main team gross prize with a cumulative 161 (+17), and Sarah Marley and Chelsea Stewart achieved the best gross and nett pairs score on the day with 78 (+6) gross, 72 (level) nett. However, the team from Mid Herts represented by Janet Biscoe with Lindsay Murray-Gray and Elizabeth Thomas with Pippa Legg won the best nett team prize, edging Essendon into 2nd place in this section on a countback.
The defending champions Welwyn Garden City made a sterling defence of their titles, finishing in 2nd place in the main gross event and the pair of Ladies’ 1st Team Captain Kelly Hutcherson with Nicola Callander finishing in 2nd in the best gross pair category, only losing out to the aforementioned Essendon pair of Marley & Stewart on a back 9 countback.
The event was played in excellent spirit and good sense of camaraderie between the competitors. Thanks to our friends at Sandy Lodge for hosting the event in excellent fashion.
