Boys Under 16's earn honorable draw at Ashridge
HERTS BOYS U16 TEAM, FROM L TO R, MATTHEW GAUNTLETT, GEORGE WRIGHT, GEORGE DURKAN, MAX HOPKINS, ALEX RAYBOULD, DOMINIC CLEMONS, FINLAY CRAIGMYLE & JOSH LEAR
Short report by Boys U16 Manager Tony Pohlman,
The boys team received a warm welcomeby the Ashridge scratch team captain Luke Mitterhuber. There had been heavy rainfall through the night resulting a very wet and muddy course but thankfully still open for play.
The morning foursomes did not go as planned with the first three matches going to the Ashridge team, blushes saved by the gallant efforts of Alex and Matthew by a win on the 18th, leaving the team 3-1 down.
After the chef’s excellent lunch the afternoons encounter looked a lot brighter, with Max gaining a half against the Andrew Crux and Matthew scoring a victory over Jeremy O’Neill. The last three matches going in favor of the boys team. Everything revolved around Finlay’s match against the seasoned player Ken Whitton, with the match swinging to and fro, all square standing on the 18thtee, this nail biting match finished all square, but not before Finlay gave us all a scare by fluffing his first chip to the green but played a brilliant second chip to clinch a half.Overall score six matches to each side, a great result for the boys against a team of canny players who are great hosts.
