Wins for West Herts and East Herts in the Ver Junior League Knockout Finals
VER SHIELD WINNERS 2017 - WEST HERTS GC
The 2nd legs in the finals of both the Ver Shield and the Ver Plate were completed in the last week with victories for West Herts in the Shield and East Herts in the Plate.
The Ver Junior League is one of the oldest continuous interclub junior knockout events played in the South East, with 16 teams each year taking part.
This year 12 of the clubs taking part were Hertfordshire based with 2 Bedfordshire clubs, Beadlow Manor and John O'Gaunt and 2 Middlesex clubs, Ealing and Enfield.
Although the event is called a league, it is actually a knockout event played over the season. Played as 7 a side playing singles matchplay, with each tie played over 2 legs, home and away. The 1st round winners progress in the Shield, while the 1st round losers go into the Ver Plate.
In the final of the Shield, West Herts took on Redbourn and the eventual winners took a 4.5 - 2.5 lead from the 1st leg at West Herts into the 2nd leg at Redbourn, played last Friday (Oct 27). Redbourn would win the 2nd leg 4-3, but this was not enough to take the title, overall score 7.5 - 6.5 to West Herts.
In the final of the Plate, East Herts took on Harpenden Common, which was won in a more comprehensive manner by East Herts who defeated Harpenden Common both home and away.
Congratulations to both West Herts and to East Herts on their victories.
