What have we been up to this month?
Women on Par event at Mill Green Golf Club 11th August 2019
We had our second Women on Par event on the 11th August at Mill Green Golf Club and what a brilliant day it was! We had 24 ladies take part representing 11 clubs across Hertfordshire. Of those at least 5 were total beginners and some were coming back to the game.
Registration included a Raffle which had the purpose to raise some money for the Lady Captain, Anita Marques' charity, HAD (Hertfordshire Action on Disability). £47.00 was raised which will go to a great cause.
There were a few nerves kicking around but once the ladies got onto the Par 3 course, the volunteers did what they do best and assured each lady as they went round with motivational words and the basics of the game. In the end we had our winners and with 72.2% of the challenges complete, Carol Trask came in 1st. In 2nd was Sara Hill and in 3rd Jess Everall. Congratulations ladies and thank you to Mill Green for providing excellent prizes on the day.
We are looking forward to our next event at Redbourn Golf Club on the 27th October and hope to see even more ladies come along to have some fun at our final event of the summer season.

Women on Par Events
In short, it is a tried and tested 9 hole event. It features a novel scoring system, using a challenge scorecard, to help beginners learn the basic rules and etiquette of the game. Instead of counting shots, the scorecard outlines challenges for players to undertake, for example hitting the green or getting out of the bunker in one.
There are two levels of challenge scorecard, so events can cater for beginners and those who have played a little.
Women on Par helps new golfers develop as players. It’s also great fun and a good way to get newcomers involved with the club and its social life.
Final event of the summer season
Redbourn Golf Club - 27th October 2019 https://redbournstellafrogley.eventbrite.co.uk
The Professionals are challenged to get a team of 4 beginners, coach them in 8 weeks leading into the event on the course. This has been very successful in the past and creates a great atmosphere within the county between the Professionals as they prepare their teams. It is focused on having FUN, it is stress free and just a taster to see if you like the game.

How do we achieve our goals?
The Development Group have targeted initiatives each year that see the growth of the game in the county. Examples of these include:
Women on Par events, which was pioneered by the group in 2016, has since become an England Golf case study and retention initiative, now rolled out nationally.
Pro Challenge is a mixed adult initiative encouraging Professionals to enter a team of 4 beginners they currently coach, to compete on a Par 3 course against other teams.
Golf Foundation’s GolfSixes League sees six Hertfordshire golf clubs with teams of 6 players, playing in a Texas Scramble format at the six venues. This league follows the very successful GolfSixes Professional tournament held at Centurion Golf Club in May since 2017.
Hertfordshire Sports Partnership initiatives, such as Year of Physical Activity, support the clubs to grow the game through their own club activities.
Community Activity - Guides and Scouts are one of the targeted audiences where the group support PGA Professionals and clubs to run taster sessions at various uniform groups with the aim of encouraging the participants into regular golf activity.
Community Activity – Disability has always been very strong within Hertfordshire with an average of 3 opportunity projects, from schools to adult care homes, supported each year.
